Where is the “immortal’s skid mark” that every experienced trailer knows?
Every experienced trailer knows ‘immortal’s skid mark’. This is not a mountain mystery, but a famous site due to serious soil erosion!
Wong Nai Tun Reservoir is a beautiful small irrigation pond. The water color in the sun often full of green, which is very beautiful. The reservoir was built in the 1960s. In order to increase the water supply to Tai Lam Chung Reservoir, the government cut off the water supply from the nearby river, which greatly reduced the water supply to the middle reaches of Yuen Long and affected the water supply to farmland.
Standing in the dam above the pond, the right side of the hillside is the early mountain line famous ‘immortal’s skid mark’ location.
“skid mark” refers to the track left by the wagon after it passes the road. This long-term soil erosion gradually rushed out of two deep and parallel gullies, just like the track after the carriage of the immortal came down to earth. ‘immortal’s skid mark’ is from here.
‘immortal’s skid mark’ is a low, flat ridge which was affected by natural soil erosion and the soil at the top of Tai Lam is easily weathered granite. As a result, the soil erosion was serious. At that time, due to lack of plant protection, a deep gully was formed after years of erosion. In addition, the deepest part are more than one story high.
Then the government planted trees on the otherwise bare mountain.and the roots of the trees hold on to the soil, preventing the rain from washing away the sand. The loss of plants, dead leaves and branches would also rot into new soil, which would slow down the soil erosion of “immortal’s skid mark” and “immortal’s skid mark” has disappeared in the forest from now on. The two long parallel gullies were now covered with dead wood and could only be seen faintly.
