Lead Mine Pass – The intersection of trails
Lead Mine Pass
The Lead Mine Pass is said to have been a lead mine in the early 20th century, that’s where its name came from.Today, there are still abandoned mines in the vicinity, some of which are more than 100 years old. However, due to disrepair, they all have structural and sanitary problems, please do not take any risks to explore the caves.
Lead
Mine Pass is the intersection of Maclehose Trail
and Wilson Trail. Maclehose
Trail is the longest hiking trail in Hong Kong.
It is 100 km long and spans eight country parks from east to west. It was opened in October,
1979, named after Sir
Crawford Murray MacLehose, then Governor of Hong Kong. Wilson Trail, named after Sir
David Clive Wilson, the
27th Governor
of Hong Kong, was put into use in 1996, with 78 km long. It is the second longest hiking trail in Hong
Kong, which runs from south to north.
Lead Mine Pass is a main “fork”. Hikers can walk along Wilson Trail to Tai Po. Or walk along Shing Mun Forest Track and Shing Mun Track, via Reservoir Section to Tsuen Wan . In addition, hikers can also continue on Maclehose Trail, up to Grassy Hill and Needle Hill, challenging the three hills “Mo, Grassy, Needle” ). But, please make sure you have enough energy, food and water before you start!
