錦田平原 Kam Tin plain

This is a panoramic view of Yuen long and Kam Tin plain. On a sunny day, you can even see Shekou and Shenzhen, which is a great place to enjoy sunset!
這片平原為昔日廣大面積的耕地及濕地,部份用地現已發展成為新市鎮及「村屋」,當中還有不少棕地。棕地泛指已荒廢或遭破壞的農地,民間團體「本土研究社」在2016年曾推算,全港棕地多達1192公頃,被用作貯物、回收場、貨櫃場或露天停車場等用途。
The plain is formerly a vast area of arable land and wetland, part of which has been developed into a new town and “village houses”, including some brownfield. Brownfield refers to agricultural land that has been abandoned or damaged. The Local Research Group, a non-governmental organization, estimated in 2016 that there were 1,192 hectares of brownfield land in Hong Kong turned into storage centre, recycling plant, container yard, parking lots etc.
至於腳下的郊野公園是香港重要的瑰寶,一直擔當多個重要功能,包括提供康樂及旅遊資源、調節氣候、保護水源、保育自然生態等,如果我們輕率開發郊野公園來建房屋,破壞及影響將不能挽回。
The country park is an important treasure of Hong Kong. It has long served a number of important functions, including providing recreational and tourist resources, regulating the climate, protecting water resources and conserving the natural ecology.If we make rash development of country parks for housing, the damage will be irreversible.
