Why the ancient trail looks so new?
Hiking from Tsuen Wan, the ancient trail has been paved with cement to facilitate access by villagers. When you pass all the village houses, you will find that the ancient trail has been transformed from ordinary cement road to the magnificent cement stone road.
This section of the trail was completed in May 2012 as part of a $3 million improvement project to Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail by the Tsuen Wan District Office. Citizens are divided into two extremes about the magnificent cement stone road.
Some may think that the new road is easier to walk and safer, but others think that it doesn’t match the surrounding natural environment, so that the ancient trail lost its ancient feelings. It is also said that the face of the new road is too hard, if the knuckles of the foot hit it will be very painful, and the road will become slippery on rainy days. So a lot of people would rather walk in the side of the grass and you will find that there is another path beside the concrete road.
The design of the trail should not only be people-oriented, but also care about nature conservation and even cultural and historical conservation. If you are a trail designer and want to rebuild this section of the ancient trail, what would you do?
